Common questions

No. Your Instagram export is parsed entirely in your browser. The media files are downloaded directly from Instagram's servers to your computer. We never see, store, or process your personal data on our servers.
You're downloading content using your own Instagram session and your own data export that Instagram provides. You're accessing data that you saved and liked through your own authenticated session. We don't scrape, hack, or bypass any protections — we simply help you organize and download content you already had access to.
Open Instagram → Settings → Accounts Center → Your Information and Activity → Download Your Information → Request Download. Choose JSON format and "All time" for the date range. Instagram will prepare your file and email you when it's ready, usually within a few hours to 48 hours.
UnplugMe downloads media slowly and carefully with built-in rate limiting to stay well within Instagram's acceptable usage patterns. We throttle requests to 1 every few seconds with randomized delays. That said, if you're planning to delete your account anyway, this concern becomes moot — download your data before you leave.
Photos are downloaded as JPG files at the highest available resolution. Videos and Reels are downloaded as MP4 files. Carousel posts (multiple images) download all slides. Everything is organized into folders matching your Instagram collections.
We do our absolute best to download every single item, but actual results may vary. Some content may be unavailable due to expired media links, posts that have been deleted by their original creator, private accounts that have since restricted access, or Instagram rate limiting. The vast majority of your saved and liked content will be recovered, but a small percentage may be missed due to factors outside our control.
We're currently partnering with organizations focused on social media awareness and youth mental health. Full transparency reports will be published quarterly. If you have a suggestion for an organization we should support, we'd love to hear it.
